This South Carolina Republican Wants to Create a "Registry" for Responsible Journalists

The bill, proposed by Republican state lawmaker Mike Pitts, would establish vague requirements for journalists to submit to a registration process by the state. Journalists found in violation of the registry, by either not registering or breaking his rules, would be subjected to monetary fines and even criminal penalties—a lighter version of how the Kremlin treats its own pesky champions of free speech. As the Post and Courier reports, quoting Pitts, the Secretary of State’s Office would maintain a "responsible journalism registry" and create the criteria, with the help of a panel, on what qualifies a person to be a journalist—similar to the licensing for doctors and lawyers.

"It strikes me as ironic that the first question is constitutionality from a press that has no problem demonizing firearms," Pitts, a lifetime NRA member, said. "With this statement I'm talking primarily about printed press and TV. The TV stations, the six o'clock news and the printed press has no qualms demonizing gun owners and gun ownership."

If it was illegal to publish lies, the left-wing media would have to close up shop. The Narrative is a fiction created by the left to manufacture public opinion.

Sicario Review: This Is Not Your Country Anymore

Sicario is a movie about a kidnapping task force agent (Emily Blunt) whose case intersects with a Mexican drug cartel. She is brought in on a larger case aimed at a local cartel boss, led by a Department of Defense adviser. Most of the movie is spent with Blunt trying to figure out the real target and purpose of the investigation. No big surprises, but it is an entertaining movie.

I can imagine the director or writers of Sicario coming from a left-wing viewpoint of distrusting the security state. Or coming from a viewpoint of moral nihilism, our side is as bad as the other. The deeper message ends up being far more reactionary.

The movie begins in the Arizona suburbs with a corpse-filled house, a cartel dumping ground. It is emphasized that this is not what people in Arizona want in their neighborhoods, and if nothing is done, there will be lots more houses like this soon. It ends with the movie's Mexican killer telling the Emily Blunt's FBI agent character to move to a small town, someplace where the rule of law is still in effect. This place has become the territory of wolves.

The Southwest does not belong to you anymore Mr. & Mrs. American, your ideals have to purpose in this place. Take flight to Whitopia. If you plan on holding the ground, be prepared for it to become a warzone.

This is part of the major rightward shift in politics that has only just begun. All of Eastern Europe is drifting away from the Washington-Brussels model of transnationlism towards nationalism.

The Economist: Poland’s new government dislikes critical media, vegetarians and cyclists

SINCE parliamentary elections in October, Poland’s far-right Law and Justice party (PiS) has controlled the country’s presidency and both chambers of parliament. It has spent its first two months in power tightening its grip over the security services, the constitutional tribunal and the civil service. Now it is purging the country’s public media. On December 31st parliament ignored a letter of concern from the European Union and passed an amendment to Poland’s media law that sacks the management of the public television and radio broadcasters, TVP1 and Polskie Radio, and empowers the treasury minister to appoint their successors. Meanwhile, as Poland moves closer to Hungarian-style illiberal democracy, the European Commission is warning that there may be consequences.

The Economist is not happy:

The new law is just the start, according to its authors. The next step will be to turn the public media into “national media”, said Krzysztof Czabanski, the deputy minister responsible for media reform. Yet the problem runs deeper. Poland lacks a clear notion of the “public media”, says Jan Zielonka, a professor of European politics at Oxford University. Under communism, the state media simply gave a megaphone to the ruling party. Many politicians today would like a similar arrangement.

A good argument were it not for the fact that the media is filled with communists.

This is the beginning of a major political realignment in the West. The foreign policy battles are not between nations, but civilizations. The progressive-transnationalists of Brussels and Washington have proven incapable of defending Western values. Domestically, the central issues are identity and core values. Liberty versus Equality, Christianity versus Secularism, homogeneous culture or multicultural.

The Economist isn't happy:

The Polish government’s efforts to defend the new law have only made things worse, creating an impression of amateurism. In a January 3rd interview with Bild, a German newspaper, Witold Waszczykowski, the foreign minister, condemned Poland’s previous centre-right government for pursuing a “left-wing” political agenda: “As if the world, in a Marxist fashion, were destined to evolve only in one direction—towards a new mix of cultures and races, a world of bicyclists and vegetarians.”

Not amateurish at all. Though it contains a rhetorical jab at the end, the first part is a clear and concise rejection of the ruling ideology in the West. It shows that Poland understands the battle in the same way that Orban in Hungary understands it. Calling the centre-right party "left-wing" is what is happening in the United States with the internal fighting in the GOP, the rise of "cuckservative" and the ascendancy of Trump. The U.S. is far more liberal than Eastern Europe because of its Anglo-Saxon roots. Things will play out differently in the U.S., but what is happening in Poland, if it is as successful as Hungary, will makes its way West over time. The left has been all but eliminated as a political force in Hungary:

Support for the radical Jobbik party dropped 2 percentage points in the last five months to 15 percent. Support for the Socialists, the third most popular party, stayed steady at 8 percent.

When one debates progressives and leftists, are you not struck by their lack of understanding? Basic science, history and economics is sorely lacking from their arguments. I don’t take this lightly. Once upon a time I foolishly thought that there was no way that Ronald Reagan could get elected president. Lesson learned. Now is the time to start contingency planning for intensified resistance to mass deportations of immigrants, atrocities against Muslims and extreme danger to African Americans.

Leftists deny Cultural Marxism is a thing, yet will write a sentence about white supremacy that includes Ben Carson. Though since Ben is a neurosurgeon using "white man's technology" I guess he qualifies as a white supreeemist in this bizarro view.

White racism distorts how we think about virtually everything, including history itself. No one will dismiss Bill O’Reilly’s goofy books about Jesus or Lincoln or Patton or Reagan as irrelevant because, “oh, that was a long time ago, it’s got nothing to do with me now.” As a general proposition people appreciate that we can discover in the present important things we didn’t previously know about the past.

Not so when it comes to race in the USA. Not for some people anyway.

This matters a great deal. In many years of anti-racist work, I have discovered that whites who deny any connection to the racism of the past will also generally deny any connection to the racism of the present. “Please don’t tell me,” cry deniers of systemic white racism. One step removed is the view that we should “accept” the history but must take the good with the bad. This is sometimes known as the “warts and all” theory of history. A variation is the convenient idea that slavery was the “original sin.” Sin, of course, in the Western Christian point of view is inevitable and immutable.

This takes an especially pernicious twist when white racism deniers argue that there has always been slavery as though that itself somehow makes it justified. It’s not true that every society over all time has enslaved people. But even if it were true, the kind of slavery on which the U.S. was built is unlike any other that preceded it. It co-evolved with capitalism and it conflated slavery with “race”—plantation capitalism as the Rev. James Lawson calls it. CSU Fresno scholars Blain Roberts and Ethan J. Kytle put it this way recently in theNew York Times: “New research has gone further, exposing how American capitalism and democracy — once thought to be antithetical to slavery — emerged hand-in-hand with it.”

Hard as it may be for propaganda-conditioned whites to grasp, global race-based capitalism is not a system of the past with lingering effects. It is a living, breathing organism of the present. It is a unitary thing. It is therefore not a good thing with warts. It is one thing. The “good” things always comes packaged with the “bad” thing. The mechanics of how it often works has a name: grand bargains.

The mother of all grand bargains is the U.S. Constitution which accommodated slavery in several ways, including the notorious three-fifths clause. While the Constitution was by no means the first grand bargain, it solidified a pattern that continues to this day. The New Deal, as Ira Katznelson demonstrates in his book Fear Itself, was another grand bargain that combined “progressive’ achievements such as union rights and Social Security with reaffirming the power of Dixiecrats and the institutions of Jim Crow.

Katznelson is white. So am I. So are many others now writing and speaking honestly and openly about the enduring power of white racism. That is valuable because it strengthens the idea that whites can come to terms with reality, past and present, as opposed to the myths we are encouraged to believe. As we do so, another world does become possible.

Of course white people can’t “save” the world. That mindset is the problem not the solution. But we can help. As Vietnam antiwar leader Rennie Davis points out, it is when we stop being invisible to each other that we start to become a movement.

The progressive bubble is increasingly small if they think articles like this are going to create an anti-white movement. It provokes the exact opposite response because they've dispensed with ideology and gone straight to race. This is pure identity politics. They've merged ideology to race, the argument above is much closer to pure genetic determinism than you will find anywhere on the right. There's no where for the conservakins and moderates to hide: this is red line racism. You are either pro-white or anti-white. If you hold any values that would be considered traditional in the cultural or religious sense, if you hold any ideas that are right of center on economics, you are a racist, you are a problem, you must be removed. As white power declines with demographics, this argument will get louder and it will increasingly use state power to persecute whites.

Without fresh ideas to carry it forward, the progressive left suffocates like a shark, killed by its own rhetoric. Identity politics can carry a movement forward if it has achievable goals, but once its goals are gone, all it has left is identity. The KKKrazy Glue works at keeping a coalition together to pass the Affordable Care Act, but if there's nothing on the horizon, then the only thing left is the KKKrazy Glue. At the same time, the white reaction to KKKrazy Glue is to become a "white supremacist." I don't know how things are where you live, but regular folks who hold regular, safe political views, are saying things that are unrefined alt-right talking points. An average mom, commenting on the student protests at Missouri said to me, "What white privilege will my daughter ever have?!"

At the least, Roy was strategic; he got America’s most-listened-to talk radio host to obliviously thumbs-up a white supremacist movement. What Roy left out of his interview is that the alt right is a neoreactionary effort comprised of right-wing agitators brought together by their opposition to immigration (in particular, Hispanic and Muslim immigration), animosity to Muslims, and general opposition to multiculturalism (they call it cultural Marxism). They hate political correctness, they like Donald Trump, and they love dubbing their enemies “cuckservatives.”

Unbearable Whiteness of Being...a White Democrat

It appears the tipping point has been reached for White Democrats. The events on college campuses show White Democrats cannot handle changing demographics. Due in part to their youth worship, but mainly a result of their anti-white Cultural Marxism, White Democrats are being removed from power because they are the nearest expression of White Privilege. The Democratic Convention is going to be in Philadelphia, well within driving distance of the New York and Baltimore Black Lives Matter groups. Maybe not this year, but eventually Missouri will repeat at the Democratic Convention. As in 1968, a watershed moment will come when the White Democrats who aren't completely dedicated to racial politics are removed from power. The rump of progressivism will be left to carp in the remaining media outlets they control. Those will quickly fall afterwards as there will still be individual profit from feeding Whites to the alligators. Those that remain will fade into obscurity as the Old Right faded in the wake of World War II.

The battle with #cuckservatives and the battle between Trumpkins and the GOP Establishment represents the emergence of new political battle lines. The GOP Establishment spends more time arguing with Tea Party/conservative base/alt-right than it does arguing with the Democrats now. This is not because the GOP Establishment is being pulled Left nor that they were always Left, it is because the bulk of the GOP is being pulled right as the left rapidly descends into pure identity politics. Changes in time preferences will take care of the rest as the left increasingly focuses on short-term issues. It is already a rolling riot act, shifting from one outrage to the next with no coherent vision of the future because it has no future.

The CNN article brings up another point worth tacking on: White Democrats have been suppressing racial politics to some degree because of their Liberal White Supremacy. They use racial politics as a cudgel, but also temper it and put it into the language of White politics. As the White Democrats fade, the buffer layer between the races is being taken off. Social media plays an increasingly large role in politics. The gatekeepers and journalists are surprisingly stupid, but the base of the Democrat party even more so.

Safe Space laws are state and local laws enforcing diversity and tolerance in the United States. Enacted after the Obama presidency, these laws continue in force to this day. They mandate de jure racial segregation in all public universities across the 50 states. The impetus for the laws were the fact that conditions for African Americans were consistently inferior and underfunded compared to those available to white Americans. The safe space laws institutionalized a number of economic, educational, and social advantages for historically oppressed minorities. De jure segregation mainly applied to the universities and government facilities, while private segregation was generally de facto.

Safe space laws mandated the segregation of public schools and required safe public places on the basis of race and gender, while the segregation of restrooms was sometimes based on race, gender or sexual orientation, or a combination of two or more factors. The U.S. military was also segregated, as were federal workplaces, initiated in 2016 under President Obama, the black president ever elected. His administration practiced racial discrimination in hiring.

These Safe Space laws attempted to redress white privilege in America, which had previously restricted the civil rights and civil liberties of African Americans. Integration of public (state-sponsored) schools was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of the United States in 2020 in Homer v. Board of Education, which upheld that whites could be excluded from Safe Spaces as long as there were equal facilities available. Generally, the Safe Space laws overruled the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, but years of action and court challenges were needed to unravel numerous means of institutional discrimination and white privilege.

IS bases its terrorism on a vicious calculation. It believes that successful attacks will inspire the would-be Muslim radicals that it is trying to recruit. But it also wants to provoke a backlash in order to convince those same radicals that the world despises them and their religion. In February IS propaganda described a “greyzone” in which some Muslims’ loyalty is divided between radical Islam and a country where they do not feel that they completely belong. IS wants terrorism to drive Muslims out of this greyzone and into the black-robed embrace of the Caliphate.

There are Muslims in the West who do not subscribe to jihad and recruiting from this pool makes more sense then trying to send in jihadists from abroad. The truth of the matter, however, is that the greyzone people are either apostates or heading towards apostasy. They are bad Muslims who are either on their way to becoming Westernized or who will fall back into Islam. By framing it the way The Economist does, it will push more Muslims into jihad because it will preserve their Muslim identity. If instead the response is to push harder for assimilation, more people will move away from Islam. The sound strategy is not to cut off all Muslims (unless a nation is serious about deporting most or all of them), but to give them a choice of Westernization or radicalism. Then deport the radicals. A policy of de-Islamization can work, but it is impossible with the current multicultural mindset of the ruling progressives.

There's more stupidity in that Economist piece, but I'd rather turn to the full retards at The Atlantic. The Empathy Gap Between Paris and Beirut. The new Narrative is: how come Western people are upset at a terror attack in a Western country where terrorists attacks are rare, but not upset at a terror attack in a Middle Eastern country where terror attacks are normal?

It’s become a predictable pattern: One act of violence in the world overshadows a similar, concurrent violent act, inviting a backlash against this imbalance in scrutiny, sympathy, and grief. But that predictability doesn’t make the pattern any less distressing. Each time there’s a major terror attack in an American or European city—New York, Madrid, London, Paris, Paris again—it captures the attention and concern of Americans and Europeans in a way that similar atrocities elsewhere don’t seem to do. Seldom do events line up so neatly, offering a clear comparison, as the bombings in Beirut and the rampage in Paris.

This is troublesome (of course!).

The CNBC debate is a teachable moment for the alt-right to get the message out.

The gap between the media and DNC is similar to the gap between the State Department and Justice Department.

The Stamp Act 1765 (short title Duties in American Colonies Act 1765; 5 George III, c. 12) was an act of the Parliament of Great Britain that imposed a direct tax on the colonies of British America and required that many printed materials in the colonies be produced on stamped paper produced in London, carrying an embossed revenue stamp. Printed materials included legal documents, magazines, playing cards, newspapers and many other types of paper used throughout the colonies. Like previous taxes, the stamp tax had to be paid in valid British currency, not in colonial paper money. The purpose of the tax was to help pay for troops stationed in North America after the British victory in the Seven Years' War and the French and Indian War. The Americans said there was no military need for the soldiers because there were no foreign enemies on the continent, and the Americans had always protected themselves against Native Americans. They suggested it was rather a matter of British patronage to surplus British officers and career soldiers who should be paid by London.

The Stamp Act was very unpopular among colonists. A consensus considered it a violation of their rights as Englishmen to be taxed without their consent—consent that only the colonial legislatures could grant. Their slogan was "No taxation without representation." Colonial assemblies sent petitions and protests. The Stamp Act Congress held in New York City, was the first significant joint colonial response to any British measure; it petitioned Parliament and the King. Local protest groups, led by colonial merchants and landowners, established connections through Committees of Correspondence that created a loose coalition that extended from New England to Maryland. Protests and demonstrations initiated by a new secret organization the Sons of Liberty often turned violent and destructive as the masses became involved. Very soon all stamp tax distributors were intimidated into resigning their commissions, and the tax was never effectively collected.

A Sensible Version of Donald Trump

This will mean doing some things Republicans like. We’ve got to devolve a lot of power from Washington back to local communities. These neighborhoods can’t thrive if they are not responsible for themselves. Then we’ve got to expand charter schools. The best charter schools radiate diverse but strong cultures of achievement. Locally administered social entrepreneurship funds could help churches and other groups expand their influence.

This will mean doing some things Democrats like. We’ve got to reform and expand early childhood education programs, complete with wraparound programs for parents. They would turn into community hubs. Infrastructure programs could increase employment.

Basically we’ve got to get socialist. No, I don’t mean the way Bernie Sanders is a socialist. He’s a statist, not a socialist. I mean we have to put the quality of the social fabric at the center of our politics. And we’ve got to get personalist: to treat people as full human beings, not just economic units you fix by writing checks.

Then we’ve got to get integrationist, to integrate different races and classes through national service and school and relocation vouchers. And finally, we have to get a little moralistic. There are certain patterns of behavior, like marrying before you have kids and sticking around to parent the kids you conceive, that contribute to better communities.

Look, I don’t know if I’m red or blue. If you want a true outsider, don’t just pick someone outside the political system. Pick someone outside the rigid partisan mentalities that are the real problem here.

This is what the house conservative at the NYTimes thinks is a palatable centrist opposition. Who is he talking to? The managerial class.

The gap between the people and the government is as wide as it was in 1765. There is no conversation going on and the supposedly smarter, well informed people are the most clueless.

A lot of people believe papal infallibility means the Pope is always right. In reality, it is a very narrow power used in doctrinal disputes or relating to things such as the canonization of saints. On many issues, including anything outside of the realm of theology such as science and economics, the Pope is quite fallible.

After the latest synod, the butthurt Pope called the bishops meanies because they opposed him on homosexuality: Pope, ending synod, excoriates bishops with 'closed hearts'. He did win a change on divorce though:

The document spoke of a so-called "internal forum" in which a priest or a bishop may work with a Catholic who has divorced and remarried to decide jointly, privately and on a case-by-case basis if he or she can be fully re-integrated.
