Sicario Review: This Is Not Your Country Anymore

Sicario is a movie about a kidnapping task force agent (Emily Blunt) whose case intersects with a Mexican drug cartel. She is brought in on a larger case aimed at a local cartel boss, led by a Department of Defense adviser. Most of the movie is spent with Blunt trying to figure out the real target and purpose of the investigation. No big surprises, but it is an entertaining movie.

I can imagine the director or writers of Sicario coming from a left-wing viewpoint of distrusting the security state. Or coming from a viewpoint of moral nihilism, our side is as bad as the other. The deeper message ends up being far more reactionary.

The movie begins in the Arizona suburbs with a corpse-filled house, a cartel dumping ground. It is emphasized that this is not what people in Arizona want in their neighborhoods, and if nothing is done, there will be lots more houses like this soon. It ends with the movie's Mexican killer telling the Emily Blunt's FBI agent character to move to a small town, someplace where the rule of law is still in effect. This place has become the territory of wolves.

The Southwest does not belong to you anymore Mr. & Mrs. American, your ideals have to purpose in this place. Take flight to Whitopia. If you plan on holding the ground, be prepared for it to become a warzone.

The SJW/Progressive menace would probably have laughed off a boycott by Christians who pointed this aspect of the movie out, but they went nuts over a handful of people who called it anti-white.

So Chen Qiuyan, 20, a communications student at Sun Yat-sen University in the southern city of Guangzhou, said she was shocked last year to discover textbooks in the college library that continued to define homosexuality as a sickness. In one psychology text, published in 2013, she read: “Sexual orientation disorder is a sexual psychological disorder that involves being sexually attracted to abnormal objects. It includes pedophilia, zoophilia, necrophilia and homosexuality.”

At the time, Ms. Chen was trying to determine whether she was a lesbian. Concerned that online information might be unreliable, she sought out academic sources in the library. But what she found only deepened her identity crisis.

“I thought textbooks must be authoritative,” Ms. Chen said by telephone from Guangzhou. “After reading them, I was terrified. I was even more afraid to admit that I’m gay.”

Now, speaking of egalitarian pretense, consider the idea of “marriage equality,” which Justice Anthony Kennedy pretends to have stumbled upon somewhere in the U.S. Constitution on a Friday morning last June, with (so far) about 42% of the U.S. population going along with the gag. Depending on the political needs of the moment, the proponents of “marriage equality” have also often pretended that their arguments wouldn’t support polygamy, incestuous marriage, you name it.

But everyone knows this isn’t true. For, contrary to some further pretense from the “marriage equality” crowd, the point about the implications of “marriage equality” has nothing to do with making a fallacious slippery slope inference, but rather with making a perfectly valid reductio ad absurdum inference. A slippery slope fallacy fundamentally involves making a causal claim to the effect that A will lead to B, where there is at best a contingent connection between A and B and where no specific causal path from the one to the other has been established. A reductio ad absurdum argument, by contrast, involves making a logical claim about the entailment relations between propositions. In the present case, the idea is that if you not only remove heterosexuality and even fidelity from the essence of marriage, but in general treat the institution as essentially a matter of current social convention and legal stipulation rather than something grounded in nature, then in principle there is no limit to what might be counted as a “marriage.”

Universities should also officially and strongly discourage trigger warnings. They should endorse the American Association of University Professors’ report on these warnings, which notes, “The presumption that students need to be protected rather than challenged in a classroom is at once infantilizing and anti-intellectual.” Professors should be free to use trigger warnings if they choose to do so, but by explicitly discouraging the practice, universities would help fortify the faculty against student requests for such warnings.

N.J. scoutmaster 'groomed' boy for sex, cops say

A scoutmaster with a Boy Scout troop in South Jersey was "grooming" a young boy for sexual purposes by buying him pricey gifts, officials said Thursday.

The Cape May man, Frank Thomson, was arrested and charged Tuesday with luring an 11-year-old boy after a concerned citizen tipped off authorities earlier this month to suspicious activity between the two, Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor said in a release.

During several interviews with 68-year-old man, authorities say they discovered a separate incident several years ago where Thomson sexually assaulted a young boy. Additional charges were brought against Thomson on Wednesday.

Even if you make the most favorable interpretation, that many homosexuals are that way because of childhood molestation, it destroys the argument that homosexuality is all natural. If progressives want to push this favorable interpretation, the Christian movement to turn homosexuals back to straight is completely legitimate and should be supported by progressives.

When one group is heavily responsible for theft or terrorism, keeping a close eye on them may increase some friction with the group, but lower overall theft/terrorism. If instead everyone is profiled, the result is widespread loss of trust and a much smaller reduction in theft/terrorism due to resources spread thin. The resulting loss of trust undermines support for the effort as well, and may increase the risk of backlash. Take the TSA, all it does is create hatred for the government. It fails to do anything of substance to reduce terrorism, while greatly increasing anger and lowering trust.

It is titled “China Does Not Allow Single Women to Freeze Their Eggs” (中国禁单身女性用冷冻卵子), and has triggered much controversy.

More specifically: although single women in China technically can have their eggs frozen (if they have the money for it), they will not be able to have them inseminated unless they provide three certificates: their identification card, their marriage certificate, and their ‘zhunshengzheng‘ (准生证 ) – the ‘Permission to give Birth’, which will not be issued without the marriage certificate. In short: single women will not be able to have a baby through artificial insemination, because they will never get the required legal papers to go through with the procedure.

Because? Because there are laws against that kind of thing.

May 2015: Once 'Father' and 'Son,' Now a Married Couple

A couple who were legally father and son for the last fifteen years had their adoption vacated and were married this week after 52 years together.

...“When we moved to Pennsylvania, we had both retired and we were of the age where one begins to do estate planning,” MacArthur tells Yahoo Parenting. “We went to a lawyer who told us Pennsylvania was never going to allow same-sex marriage, so the only legal avenue we had in order to be afforded any rights was adoption.”

MacArthur says he thought the suggestion was strange at first. “It struck me as fairly unusual, but we looked into it and discovered that other couples had done it. [Without the adoption] we would be legally strangers.” An adoption would grant the couple certain legal rights they felt compelled to secure.

Oh, they weren't really father and son see, so it isn't the same thing.....and yet legally they were father and son.

There would be laws against mothers marrying sons due to the risk of pregnancy. I doubt there is any law against father and son getting married because like gay marriage, there would be no law covering something that never before existed.
